A free YouTube thumbnail grabber for any public video, Shorts and live streams included.
Paste a YouTube link or the 11-character video ID.
Press Get thumbnails.
Pick a size and press Download, or Copy link for the image address.
YouTube's image server keeps every public video's thumbnail at several sizes. These are the same pictures you see in the feeds and in search. The downloader checks the five standard sizes and shows you the ones that exist, each with its pixel size.
HD is the one you usually want. It is also the one that can be missing, along with Standard, for example on old uploads made in low resolution. When YouTube has no file for a size it sends back a small gray placeholder, and the tool hides that size instead of handing you a blank image.
The Standard, High and Small sizes are 4:3, so a widescreen thumbnail comes with black bars above and below the picture. Medium is 16:9 with no bars, which makes it the best small copy for a mood board.
| Size | Pixels | Shape |
|---|---|---|
| HD | 1280 x 720 | 16:9 |
| Standard | 640 x 480 | 4:3 |
| High | 480 x 360 | 4:3 |
| Medium | 320 x 180 | 16:9 |
| Small | 120 x 90 | 4:3 |
For a channel owner, the most useful one is studying a niche. Save the top thumbnails for a search like "rain sounds for sleep" or "lofi study music" and put them side by side. You start to see what they share: the colors, how much text there is, whether there is a character or only a scene.
It is also handy for getting your own thumbnail back when the original file is gone, or for adding a video's image to a blog post or a playlist page that links to it.
Thumbnails belong to the people who made them. Use other creators' thumbnails for reference, not as your own.
Everything runs in your browser. The tool reads the video ID from the link, loads each size from YouTube's image server, and Download saves a JPG named after the ID and the size, like aqz-KE-bpKQ-maxresdefault.jpg. If your browser blocks the download, the image opens in a new tab and you can save it from there.
It reads watch, Shorts, live, embed and youtu.be links, and links copied from the phone app.

YouTube does not keep the 1280 x 720 size for every video, old low-resolution uploads in particular. When it is missing, the largest size the tool shows is the biggest copy there is.
Yes. Paste the Shorts link and you get the Short's thumbnail sizes the same way.
Not as your own. A thumbnail belongs to the creator who made it, so use it for reference, research or a link back to their video.
Yes. It runs in your browser with no limit, so grab as many as you like for your research.
Each size lives on YouTube's image server under the video ID, like i.ytimg.com/vi/aqz-KE-bpKQ/maxresdefault.jpg. Press Copy link next to any size to get its address.
